Sigma Aldrich
provides chemical and biochemical materials, and large-scale custom
and cGMP manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology,
and high-technology industries from discovery through commercialization.
Recently it has enhanced its cell culture and manufaturing capabilities
in Europe to support growing market need.
The Company
is unique in its ability to supply the broadest organic and biochemical
manufacturing technology base in the industry with over 85,000 products,
nearly half of which are produced in house. Sigma Aldrich’s
6,000 employees serve over 1 million customers world-wide and create
annual sales exceeding $1 billion. The Company operates 29 manufacturing
sites in eight countries.
In recent years
Sigma Aldrich has evolved and expanded from a specialty lab chemicals
supplier with fine chemicals and biotech sales divisions, to a broader
position in life sciences with stand alone business units for Scientific
Research, Fine Chemicals and Biotechnology, each with their own
R&D, manufacturing and sales operations. In order to strengthen
the awareness of these strategic developments, Northbank was appointed
to support Sigma with its European PR outreach, including at the
2003 CPhI conference in Frankfurt.
The main goals
were to build a strong foundation for media relations programme
by using CphI as an opportunity to meet with and brief the press,
in particular to create awareness for the latest expansion of manufacturing
and cell culture capabilities in Europe. Northbank suggested two
events: a press conference to provide an in-depth briefing and Q&A
session; and an exclusive dinner for a select group of senior journalists
and editors from key publications.
As conference
rooms at the CPhI conference had long since been booked, Northbank
had to find a creative solution that meant organizing the press
conference in one of the trade fair center’s restaurants.
This solution meant that journalists did not have to stray far from
the exhibition halls and was very successful in that a total of
16 editors attended. The Northbank German team was also responsible
for researching the dinner, which was also a success with all targeted
media attending. The relaxed atmosphere, great wines and superb
food provided an ideal environment to extend media relationships.
The Northbank team, led by Stefan Platz was responsible for full
project management and in site support around these CPhI media events
As a result
of the media out reach at CPhI, Sigma Aldrich was featured in the
Chemical & Engineering News Show Times and will appear in four
post event reviews. In addition, 10 article opportunities were secured
including in Chemical & Engineering News, Scrip, SP², Manufacturing
Chemist, Chemical News, Specialty Chemicals Magazine, CHEManager
and others. December 2004
