Encouraging
responsible reporting in gene therapy: raising Oxford BioMedica’s
profile
As part of its
ongoing PR support for Oxford BioMedica, Northbank identified an
opportunity to raise the Company’s profile around a recent
Government Genetics White Paper. Following the considerable interest
this created with journalists, Northbank organised a successful
media briefing on gene therapy jointly with the Science Media Centre.
More than 15 science journalists from the national
papers attended the briefing, and the event provided an excellent
opportunity to raise the profile of Oxford BioMedica. The briefing
resulted in significant coverage in the Independent (the lead story
on page 2 of the paper, repeated in the tabloid issue), The Times,
the Daily Telegraph, the Daily Mail, and Chemistry in Britain. Clive
Cookson, the science editor of the Financial Times who attended
the briefing, also followed up with a feature on gene therapy in
the FT biotechnology survey published on 11 November.
Commenting on the gene therapy briefing, Katja Stout,
Associate Director in charge of the Oxford BioMedica account, said,
“We are delighted with the high levels of interest generated
among science journalists and the subsequent quality press coverage.
Oxford BioMedica is a leader in the area of gene-based medicines,
and it is important to the Company that this field is portrayed
in a positive light.”
