Conference Roundup
PepTalk 2008
College Hill attended the Cambridge Healthtech Institute’s seventh annual PepTalk Protein Information Week in San Diego, California in January. With over 800 delegates attending programmes including protein expression, production, process management and peptide therapeutics, PepTalk is the conference to attend for protein researchers.
Alongside the main programme, the conference organisers arrange break-out “Buzz Sessions”, which are one hour focus groups which discuss important and interesting topics related to Protein Arrays, Protein Expression, Plasma Proteomics, Peptide and Protein-Based Therapeutics, and Characterization of Proteins. This is a moderated discussion with brainstorming and interactive problem solving between scientists from diverse areas who share a common interest in the discussion topic. This year the Buzz topics ranged from difficult protein solutions and strategies to managing the outsourcing process for protein production and protein biomarker challenges.
Next year’s event will take place January 12-16, 2009 at the Hotel Del Coronado San Diego, CA.
BioSquare 2008
Sue Charles from College Hill attended this years meeting. The meeting provides a main conference stream, workshops, company presentations and an exhibition. Over 1278 delegates attended from 760 companies.
The highlight from a business development perspective is the very efficient partnering system – run like “speed dating” delegates can use the online partnering software to organise 30 minute meetings, held in small booths. To make the most of the meeting it is essential to prearrange meetings to maximize the use of this facility. This year over 4700 one on one meetings were held over the three days.
At excellent reception sponsored by Roche was held on the first evening at the Tinguely museum – if ever you find yourself in Basel, a trip to this museum of modern sculpture is highly recommended – http://www.tinguely.ch/en/index.html
Next year’s event will take place March 9-11, 2009 in Lyon, France. http://www.biosquare.com
